Paul Wesson, 40’s, is a manic depressive photographer past his prime. Debilitated by the storm cloud above him, Paul has virtually no contact with the outside world. His therapist reinforces that the only way out of it is through it, one hike at a time. It is during one of Paul’s hikes at the infamous Runyon Canyon in Hollywood, that he has an encounter with a younger, Parisian woman named Madeline. After an unexpected one night stand, Madeline joins Paul on a scenic road trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Along the way, Madeline’s spontaneity and youth slowly reels Paul into a deeper infatuation, but also out of his physical comfort zone. As the two strangers get closer to the City By The Bay, their tumultuous journey ultimately begins to peel back the layers of one another’s character—revealing their respective complexities and trauma. One of the things Paul fears of revealing is the purpose of their road trip in the first place—to take custody of his daughter from his estranged ex-wife.
